Writers, reading documents

Brow & Jaw is a small independent site about facial hair restoration. Nobody medical works on it, nobody medical has read it, and it says so on every page rather than in the footer.

This site is written by writers, not by doctors, and no clinician has reviewed any page on it. If you came looking for a resource a doctor had signed off, this is not one, and we would rather lose you in this paragraph than further down.

What it is built from

Four kinds of document, and nothing else:

  • Drug labels — the Drug Facts panels and prescribing information published on DailyMed, which is run by the United States National Library of Medicine. These are the actual approved wording for a product, not a summary of it.
  • Regulator publications — the Food and Drug Administration's own alerts and device guidance, read on fda.gov, with the date the page said its content was current.
  • A professional body's published research — the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery's practice census, which is the only broad published picture of who is having this work done and where on the body it goes.
  • Companies' own pages — used only to describe what a company says and sells, attributed as theirs, never repeated as if it were established.

Everything fragile — a figure, a quoted line, a date, a rule — is listed with its source and the day it was read. Anything we could not confirm at the document itself is left out of the site entirely rather than hedged into it, because a hedge still reads as a fact once it is on a page.

What we refuse to do

Name a clinic

No clinic, surgeon, agency, package or booking service appears on this domain — not as a recommendation, not as a ranking, not as a link, not as an example. The money in this lane is almost entirely paid per patient delivered to a clinic, which means a site that names them has a direct financial stake in your going, and no reader can tell from the outside which sentences were bought.

Publish faces

No before-and-after photography, no patient galleries, no drawn heads implying a result. The illustrations here are invented geometry showing where grafts are placed. A picture of somebody else's outcome is not evidence about yours, and on this subject it is the single most persuasive thing a seller owns.

Tell you how to use anything

No amounts, no frequencies, no strengths put forward as a suggestion, anywhere. Most of what people want to put on a face in this field is being used outside the terms a regulator examined, which makes it a prescriber's call. A website filling in those blanks is offering the shape of medical guidance with none of the accountability.

Invent a reviewer

There is no medical reviewer, no advisory board and no clinician byline here, and none is implied in the page code either — the structured data behind these pages carries no reviewer field, because there is nobody to put in it. Sites in this field routinely carry a doctor’s name and photograph at the top of an article the doctor did not write; this one carries no such badge because it would not be true.

How it is paid for

One affiliate programme, to one shop, appearing on two pages, flagged at the top of each of them and again beside the link itself, and set out in full on the disclosure page along with the programmes this site turned down. There is no advertising, no sponsored content, no newsletter and no form — nothing on this site collects an email address, because there is nothing here to send you.

Corrections

If something here is wrong, it is worth telling us, and the contact page explains what makes a correction easy to act on. Documents get revised: labels are updated, regulator pages are re-dated, a census is replaced by the next one. When a page here is changed because its source changed, the change is written into the page rather than made silently.
